Assistify VAs Enjoy a Fun Pickleball Team Play Day

Pickleball has a way of making everyone feel like they can join in, even if they are holding a paddle for the first time. That was exactly the kind of energy we wanted for our Assistify VAs: light, fun, active, and full of good laughs.

So, on a Sunday when some of our virtual assistants were off duty, we brought the team together for a friendly pickleball team play day. No long agenda. No formal programme. Just a chance to move, compete, cheer each other on, and enjoy time together outside of work.

The result was the kind of team moment that feels simple while it is happening, but meaningful after. There were rallies, missed shots, quick wins, playful teasing, and plenty of smiles. Most of all, there was the shared feeling of being part of a team that knows how to work hard and have fun together.

Why pickleball was the perfect choice for a team day

Pickleball has been gaining a lot of hype lately, and for good reason. It is easy to learn, social by nature, and fun whether someone is highly competitive or just there to enjoy the game.

That made it a great fit for our team.

Our VAs work with different clients, tasks, schedules, and responsibilities. Much of the work requires focus, patience, and clear communication. A casual game helped everyone step away from their regular routines and meet each other in a different setting.

On the court, roles felt lighter. A teammate who is usually known for being calm and organised might suddenly become the loudest cheerleader. Someone quiet during work chats might surprise everyone with fast reflexes. A new player might miss the ball, laugh it off, and then land a great shot in the next round.

That is the beauty of team activities. They bring out sides of people that daily tasks do not always show.

Pickleball also keeps the mood open. It does not demand too much from beginners, yet it still gives experienced players enough room to compete. A teammate can join for fun without feeling left behind. Another can enjoy a serious rally without making the game too intense for everyone else.

For a group activity, that balance matters.

A Sunday well spent with the Assistify team

Sundays are often for rest, errands, family time, or quiet routines. That made it even more special that our off-duty VAs chose to spend part of their day with the team.

The gathering was simple, but full of energy from the start. Paddles came out, players warmed up, and everyone quickly settled into the rhythm of the game. Some joined the matches right away. Others watched first, cheered from the side, and stepped in once they felt ready.

There was friendly competition, of course. No team play day is complete without a few dramatic reactions to a missed shot or a point won by surprise. But the best parts were the easy moments between games:
